Ellen Pledger
the mirror plan

Expecting our movements to mimic,
we planned on reciprocal,
on the flattering peace of imitating and went to work on being the same.

Our years learned how to roll on their own,
the mirror teaching us fear.
So many places still yearning to dance their own choreography,
the steps were intricate and often times we went barefoot for safety.

Why, I remember one summer not being sure what we looked like, we didn’t go near the water, avoiding our reflections and that showing surface.
